Derby day ends in defeat as Wakefield Ladies fall to Castleford

Wakefield Trinity Ladies RL fall to their first defeat of the Super League season with a 44-0 defeat against Castleford Tigers at the Mobile Rocket Stadium. A new season brought a new start for Super League newbies Wakefield, however, it was the old foe who reigned victorious as the Tigers ran over 10 unanswered scores to take the victory. After almost 18 months of waiting in the wings due to the pandemic, Wakefield started their 2021 season with an agonising late defeat to York in the field round of the Betfred Challenge Cup last Sunday. However, a fresh week brought a fresh challenge as a mouth-watering clash with rival Castleford beckoned. Unfortunately for the hosts, though, it was the visitors who struck an early lead. Quickplay on the Trinity line opened space and Hollie Dodd was on hand to stroll through. Despite the early set-back, it was Trinity who controlled much of the early play at Belle Vue, with Cas backs to the wall for much of the opening 15 minutes.
