Wakefield Trinity Ladies RL’s newest recruit, Megan Preston, expressed that she is “over the moon” to sign for the club ahead of a big 2022.
She signs for the club from Halifax Rugby Union, trying her hand at the 13-code for the first time in 2022 after making the West Yorkshire switch.
After a meeting with coach Ash Bond at the end of the 2021 calendar year, Preston said that her ambitions were met by the club and are excited to see where Trinity can go in the forthcoming year.
“One of our aims for next season is to finish at the top of our half of the league and that’s exactly what I want to do.
“I want to win games, play good rugby and make an impact and I think this is the perfect squad to do that with.”
With multiple new additions joining the squad in 2022, Trinity aims to make in-roads this season, hoping for a positive 2022, starting with a trip to arch-rivals in the Challenge Cup opening rounds.
Much to the same tune as the other new faces, Preston has taken to the club like a duck to water and is looking forward to the challenge which lies ahead.
“I actually sometimes forget that I haven’t even been with the squad for that long,” she said.
“We all get on so well, everyone is so friendly, the banter is good and especially after the training camp at Kendrew Barracks, the atmosphere in the squad has just been unreal.
“I can’t wait to pull the Trinity shirt on and get on that pitch.”
Switching codes at any level of the game can cause some challenges, but Preston is delighted to make the switch over to Rugby League and looks to meet any challenges head-on.
“Personally, I would like to make an impact and get a starting place in the squad, which isn’t going to be easy with the calibre of players we have this season, everyone is pushing for a starting shirt.
“I want people to see that I work hard, hopefully, score some tries and win plenty of games.
“My other goals align with those of the club’s, winning our half of the league and playing some good rugby.”
