Ellis Lingard has committed his future to Wakefield Trinity signing a four-year deal with the club.
The 17-year old made his First Team debut against Dewsbury Rams in the Betfred Championship after being promoted from 18th Man following two concussions.
His debut came off the back of a seven days where he also played for Wakefield’s Academy and Reserve sides.
The promising youngster was identified early and Trinity have moved quickly to secure his future on a long term deal until the end of the 2027 season.
On signing his deal, Lingard said: “I’m really happy to have my future secured here. I’ve always supported Wakefield right from being a little kid and all my family have been coming down for years. It’s huge for me to be signing for my childhood club. The facilities that we have at the club are absolutely class and it’s now about me putting the work in to improve.”
Recruitment Manager Ste Mills said: “We are made up to tie Ellis down to a long term deal, he has really impressed this season and it was a no brainer for us. His work ethic & attitude is first class, he’s a real credit to himself and his family.
Ellis has got a long journey ahead of him to make himself an established first team player & this process will take time, the new deal doesn’t accelerate it but it gives Ellis a clear path to the First Team throughout the next 4/5 years.
I’m sure with his attitude & determination, he will be an established first team player of the future.”
Head of Youth, Ben Lazenby said: “Since my arrival at the club I have been impressed with Ellis Lingard as a young man. His commitment to his own development, ownership over his development and gratitude for every opportunity he has had shines through. Whilst he has plenty of work still to do and room for development ahead of him, he has the correct attitude and mindset to keep improving and driving himself forward.
As a player who initially missed selection for scholarship he is a prime example of the type of person who has continued to work hard on his craft and improving himself to put himself in the best position to progress. It just shows that early selection (or lack of) is not the best all and end all, I expect Ellis to continue on his trajectory as long as he keeps working hard and taking every learning opportunity ahead of him.
He has the potential to be a bright light for the club for a long time.”
