Lewis relishing lead role

Trinity captain Saskia Lewis expressed that her side is “looking forward” to the challenge as they head to Hull KR in their first pre-season friendly of 2022.

After what feels like a long offseason, Wakefield Trinity Ladies are back and feeling better than ever.

With multiple new signings in the camp and an unbreakable team spirit, the Ladies are looking to build once again in the 2022 season, starting with a pre-season test against the Robins.

“Pre-season games are a great test for us to try out different combinations and things that we’ve been working on during training.

“It also gives us the chance to reflect on things that may need a little more work before the season begins.

“With us having a lot of new signings it also gives us the opportunity to gel even more ready for the season.”

Being the club’s longest-serving player – signing when the side began back when she was 16 – Saskia was handed the captaincy for the 2022 season.

With all the attributes for success, the halfback is relishing the opportunity to lead the team and is looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.

“I’m really looking forward to Sunday, it will be good to get our first run out as a squad and put all our hard work into practice.

“It feels like we’ve been waiting for ages for the first game of the season but it’s finally here.”

With a new squad and a fresh hunger, the side will be looking to push on in 2022 and gain some momentum early on in the season.

A couple of pre-season games against Hull KR and Salford will offer much food for thought and see where the new additions fit into an already strong side.

“The new girls have all settled so well into the squad and we’ve gelled quick as a team, and I think this will really help us come Sunday’s game.

“It feels like they’ve always been a part of the team so I don’t think you will be able to tell they’re new during Sunday’s game.

“Mood in the camp is really positive and exciting, we’re all so ready for Sunday’s game. Everyone’s worked hard through pre-season and the atmosphere has been great throughout.”
