Development Day Enjoyed Scholars

February 15, 2024

Yesterday saw Wakefield Trinity scholarship players train alongside the Wakefield Trinity Lions Development Programme players at Hemsworth Miners Welfare FC.

All players received a presentation from Wakefield College about the joint Wakefield rugby development squad programme, which is a collaboration between the college and the academy. The programme allows aspirational young players to study a range of subjects alongside their ongoing rugby development led by the Wakefield Trinity academy coaches and staff. Recent successes of the programme have included players Lewis Murphy, James Batchelor, Jack Croft, Yusuf Aydin, Tom Delaney and Sam Eseh.

Following their respective presentations the scholarship were put through their paces by England Rugby League fitness testers and the Lions Development players warmed up with some skills and speed tests. Then, all players were mixed together and coached by scholarship and academy coaches, some of the academy players and the foundation and lions development coaches. All players worked their way around a carousel of catch/pass, play the ball, moving defenders, decision making, offload and low tackle.

Following the coaching session the coaches took part in a coaching CPD session led by England Rugby Union Academy Programme Manager, Stuart Dixon.
