Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation is delighted to announce that last week, we donated 1754 books to the Children’s Ward at Pinderfields Hospital in partnership with MY Hospitals Charity.
Following a World Book Day appeal in the week leading up to Thursday, 2nd April, the Foundation wanted to spread joy in the community, working with the multiple schools already in our network.
Throughout the whole of the Outwood Grange Academies Trust & Waterton Trust, pupils and parents were extremely generous with their donations, breaking expectations within a couple of days, with many schools bringing in upwards of 300-400 books each.
Following the appeal in schools, the club was also asking for fans to donate their unused/unwanted books at Wakefield Trinity’s game against Huddersfield Giants, setting up stalls located across the turnstiles at the Be Well Support Stadium, which added to the already-staggering tally.
Following hours of counting and drop-offs, the Foundation was finally able to bring all the books together & drop them off at Pinderfields Hospital, with men’s players Kelepi Tanginoa and Lee Kershaw making a special visit to those in the Children’s Ward.
Over the next few weeks, MY Hospitals Charity will be circulating the books throughout the hospital wards, library & school situated throughout the facility, making sure that young patients have the chance to keep themselves entertained and expand their learning.
Speaking on the World Book Day appeal overall, the Foundation’s Media & Commercial Executive, William Moore, said, “The support that we have had from MY Hospitals Charity, our school network & the supporters of the club has been fantastic to see.
“To receive over 1700 donations in just a matter of weeks is incredible, and I am so proud that we have all managed to come together to do something so special for those in the Children’s Ward at Pinderfields Hospital. It really is great to see.”
While Keith Ramsay, Trust Chair and MY Hospitals Charity Chairman, said, “On behalf of the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust, we are so grateful for this donation to our Children’s Ward and throughout the Children’s Department at Pinderfields.
“It is great to see the community coming together, donating an amazing number of books to our Trust that will bring joy to our youngest patients and families during their time in hospital.”
