Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation are delighted to announce that this year’s Walk With Wakey raised £6,745 in support of the Wakefield Children’s Bed Appeal and the Foundation!
Ahead of Wakefield Trinity’s Betfred Super League derby against Castleford Tigers earlier this month, almost 100 walkers made the 8.2-mile journey from the DIY Kitchens Stadium to the OneBore Stadium, fundraising for the Bed Appeal and Foundation.
The Bed Appeal helps to tackle bed poverty across the Wakefield District, with more than 6,000 children in our region going to sleep each night without a bed of their own.
More than 550 beds have been delivered to children in Wakefield by Zarach, the partner charity of the Prosper Wakefield District, who launched the Wakefield Children’s Bed Appeal last year.
The Foundation are thrilled to have raised as much as £6,745 through this year’s edition of Walk With Wakey, smashing our pre-event target of £5,000.
Luke Shale, Head of Foundation at the Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation, said: “I’m delighted that our latest Walk With Wakey has raised as much as £6,745 and I’d like to give a massive thank you to everyone that made the event an incredible success, from those that participated, to everyone that donated, and to the staff at the Foundation, Prosper and Castleford Tigers who made the event happen.
“It was amazing to welcome representatives from so many different organisations to this year’s walk, who all came together to support two amazing charitable causes.
“The money raised will make a significant impact in our local community and help support the valuable work of the Wakefield Children’s Bed Appeal and Zarach, who continue to strive to eradicate bed poverty in our region and across the country.”
Emma McKee, Partnerships Coordinator at Prosper, said: “The support and turnout from so many members of the Wakefield community to join this year’s Walk With Wakey was amazing.
“Here at Prosper, we’ve had lots of fundraising efforts that have taken place over the summer and the support of Wakefield Trinity and Castleford Tigers, as trusted partners in our local area, has helped elevate what we’re doing and we’re truly grateful for your support.
“As part of the Wakefield Children’s Bed Appeal, we’ve been fundraising since November last year and raised upwards of £88,000, which means that 900 children have been put back into beds and lifted out of bed poverty.
“The incredible funds raised through those that donated to Walk With Wakey and helped surpass the £5,000 target will further support our work in tackling this issue and we’re so grateful for everyone’s support.”
