The newly formed Wakefield Trinity Girls Under 16’s team will make history tomorrow as they take on Hull KR Girls at KCOM Craven Park.
The girls have been in pre-season training since November 2018 and head coach Paul Carlos is relishing their first outing.
“We are really looking forward to the game on Saturday, the girls have been training really hard and are enthused for their first game. The majority of the team are new to club rugby and tomorrow will give us an early beach mark of where we are at before the season starts”.
The Girls u16s team has formed on the back of some successful schools coaching with our SkyTry and GirlCode13 programmes running throughout the local secondary schools around Wakefield.
Community Manager James Stephenson commented, “We have dedicated a lot of time to girls rugby league over the last couple of years and in particular throughout 2018 and early 2019. The GirlCode13 programme has proven a huge success and seen a great percentage of girls transitioning from schools to club rugby in the area. I am delighted to see the formation Wakefield Trinity Girls u16s team and look forward to seeing them play on Saturday”
Training for the girls is twice a week at our great ambassador club Sharlston Rovers and all girls from years 10&11 who would like to give rugby league a try are more than welcome!
