Wakefield Trinity confirm Wheelchair squad for 2025

June 30, 2025

Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation are delighted to confirm our Wheelchair squad for the 2025 season!

The Wheelchair Rugby League team has a fresh look heading into the new campaign following the appointment of ex-Wakefield Trinity player Jimmy Gittins as our Director of Wheelchair Rugby and former Leeds Rhinos boss Jim Dyson as our new Head Coach.

During the month of June, we have hosted a series of Open Trial sessions at Denhale Activity Recreation Centre, inviting players of a range of ages and experience levels down to try out for the team.

Returning to the Wakefield Trinity Wheelchair squad for 2025 are Michael Duffy, Amy Scaife and Tyler Scaife, who were part of the side for our 2024 season in Championship East. Amy won the Wheelchair Coaches Player of the Year while Michael and Tyler are also members of our Learning Disability Super League team.

Joining our Wheelchair team are new recruits Alfie Holmes, Harry Rodgers, Jack Johnson and Phil Binns.

Johnson was part of the Sheffield Eagles Wheelchair team which won the Championship Grand Final last year and were Runners-Up in the 2023 Challenge Trophy.

Holmes is a current PDRL player at Sheffield and was the first PDRL try-scorer for the Eagles and the team’s inaugural PDRL Player of the Year.

Rodgers arrives at Wakefield following previous experience in the Sharlston Rovers Junior set-up in the running game.

Binns meanwhile is a life-long Trinity supporter who has previously played community rugby league with Wyke in the sport’s running game. Having undergone an amputation on his lower right leg in January, Binns was eager to stay involved in the sport through Wheelchair Rugby League.

The team will also be expanding further, with more additions set to be revealed in due course.

Wakefield Trinity Wheelchair are back in training at St Thomas A Becket School (WF2 6EQ) on Thursday evening (7.30pm – 9pm).

The Wheelchair team will then train at Outwood Academy City Fields (WF1 4SF) every Tuesday for the duration of the 2025 season.
