Wakefield Trinity booked their place in the Fifth Round of the Betfred Challenge Cup with a 78-6 win over Hunslet ARLFC.
Doubles from Lachlan Walmsley, Jay Pitts, Luke Gale and Josh Griffin helped Trinity to a comfortable win at the DIY Kitchens Stadium.
Just a few minutes in and Hunslet’s excitement got the better of them. Max Jowitt’s grubber was chased by Toby Boothroyd and just as it looked like the Trinity player was going to dot down he was taken out by a Hunslet player resulting in a penalty try.
It wasn’t long though before the visitors had things level. Jay Pitts’ wayward pass was intercepted by Tyler Dargan and the Hunslet winger raced away to touch down with Jordan Gale, cousin of Wakefield’s Luke, nailed the touchline conversion.
And it was Luke Gale who was next on the scoresheet. The Trinity halfback produced a lovely show and go to create himself a yard of space in order to go over.
Liam Hood managed to power over from close range to extend the Trinity lead before Matty Ashurst found a huge gap in the visitors defence to get over for a try.
It was another for Wakefield not long after as Jowitt broke the Hunslet line and evaded a number of defenders before popping the ball to Lachlan Walmsley who dove over.
The next try was a team effort as Josh Griffin’s offload found Hood who in turn passed to a charging Renouf Atoni before Jay Pitts finished off the try.
To end the half it was a Myles Lawford double. First the half back scooped up a loose Hunslet pass and raced the length of the field before taking a pass from Romain Franco who had wriggled his arm free in a tackle to score.
Jowitt kicked his eighth conversion of the game to bring the score at the break to 48-6.
It was much the same at the start of the second half as Pitts got his second try of the game rounding the fullback to score under the posts.
Josh Griffin was the next name on the scoresheet as he was just too strong and powerful for the Hunslet defence.
Probably the best try of the game came next as Trinity spread the ball from right to left in a great flowing move to put Walmsley over for his second.
Gale and Griffin completed the scoring but with the final conversion, Max Jowitt tied the Mark Conway and Mason Lino’s record of 13 successful goals in a single game in a Wakefield shirt!
