Wakefield Trinity and Warrington Wolves will host the next instalments of Rugby League’s Roses rivalry with Women’s and Academy Origin fixtures on consecutive days next month. 

Honours were even in the Origin double-header at Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road as part of the Betfred Championship Summer Bash at the weekend, with Lancashire levelling the Academy series with a free-flowing 36-30 win on Saturday, but Yorkshire hitting back 24 hours later by winning the first of the year’s Women’s Origin matches in a much tighter battle, scoring three tries to two for a 14-8 success. 

That means there will be everything to play for both at the Mobile Rocket Stadium in Wakefield on Saturday June 15, when the Yorkshire and Lancashire Academy teams clash for the third time in as many months in a third and decisive encounter in the 2019 series; and also at the Halliwell Jones Stadium the following day, when Lancashire’s Women will attempt to square their two-match Origin series. 

Both games will kick off at 2pm, and be shown live on the RFL’s Our League platforms (mobile, web and app), as well as on the RFL’s channel on the Twitch live streaming video platform – www.twitch.tv/rugbyleague. 

Dave Elliott, the RFL’s National Programmes Manager, said: “Playing the two Origin games on consecutive days as part of the Summer Bash raised the profile of the fixtures, and has helped to establish the concept of an Origin weekend. 

“So it’s exciting to look forward to another one in June, and we’re grateful to Wakefield and Warrington for hosting what should be another couple of fierce contests. 

“The feedback we’ve had from everyone who watched the Women’s or Academy Origin games at the weekend, either in Blackpool or online through Our League or Twitch, has been really positive. 

“As we’ve said before, these are really important games – the Women’s Origin fixtures provide the England head coach Craig Richards with a great chance to see all the leading contenders for places in the squad for the World Cup Nines in Sydney in October, and the Academy games are a key part in the build-up to a tour of Australia in 2020. 

“We hope even more fans will take the chance either to come to the grounds at Wakefield and Warrington, or to tune into the online coverage, when the teams go up against each other again next month.”
