Following a long and hard-fought campaign, Wakefield Trinity Physical Disability Rugby League will head to this weekend’s Finals Round as League Leaders’ Sheild holders, having topped the standings for the second successive year.
The pinnacle of the PDRL calendar, once again, is nearly upon us, with this year’s Finals Round taking place at Sheffield Hallam University’s Sports Park on Saturday 30th September 2023.
This is no unfamiliar weekend for Trinity, though, with the Club making it to the competition’s Grand Final every year since 2019, as an agonising last-minute defeat against Leeds Rhinos stopped us from lifting the competition’s fairytale showpiece in 2022.
However, the past is behind us, and following another incredible season, Wakefield Trinity will head to South Yorkshire brimming with confidence, having confirmed our place at the summit of PDRL for yet another year.
16 games, including 15 victories, has seen the side take the league by storm, putting in the hard yards at every festival along the way, completing the season with an incredibly tense finale with Castleford Tigers just two weeks ago as we made room for another shield in the trophy cabinet for 2023.
Now, our attention turns to Saturday. With Trinity receiving a bye in the first two rounds, this has set up a Round Three clash with the winner of either Castleford or Wigan following their game at 12:30pm. Trinity’s semi-final will take place at 1pm on the main pitch, with the winner setting up their chance at lifting the trophy.
