Max Jowitt added the extras – the first of five conversions from six efforts – and then produced an even better play moments later.
Sheffield looked destined to equalise when Marsh broke through the middle and handed off to the surging Jack Hansen but a miraculous last-ditch tackle from Jowitt denied the half-back.
Trinity doubled their lead just before the half-hour with Hood again the architect, twice hacking a loose ball forward to give Griffin a simple finish under the sticks.

Shortly after the restart, Wakefield lost Liam Hood to the sin-bin for a professional foul, with Jowitt opting to keep the scoreboard ticking through a penalty goal moments later.
With the numerical advantage, Sheffield got on the scoreboard. After Marsh broke upfield from a Jowitt dropped ball, the full-back then picked out an inside pass to Glover who finished under the sticks.
Any Sheffield joy was short-lived however as Wakefield hit back to score thrice within the space of 10 minutes when back to the full compliment.
Jowitt grubber-kicked to the right corner and give Thornley a simple dot down before Luke Gale wiggled out of a tackle to prod a kick ahead to let Ashurst get his name on the scoresheet.
And Hood then added to his two first-half assists with a try of his own by selling an almighty dummy to the Sheffield backline and leaping over the whitewash.
There remained time for the Trin to surpass the 40-point mark in the final five minutes. Walmsley threw a classy cut-out pass to the left corner to put Olpherts in at the overlap.
