Trinity Dominate Bradford in Championship Opener

On a night where Wakefield celebrated the great Neil Fox with the opening of their new stand and in front of a sellout crowd, the current crop of first team players ran out 42-12 winners over a tough Bradford Bulls side.

Trinity opened the scoring through Josh Griffin after some incredible play from Mason Lino. The Trinity half back took on the Bulls line before slipping the ball to Griffin. In scoring the try though Jorge Taufua was penalised for an 8-point try and sent to the sin bin.

Despite being down to 12-men it was Bradford who scored next. Kieran Gill broke from deep and found the fullback, Aidan McGowan in support.

After initially thinking his evening was over, Griffin returned to the field following a successful HIA and went over for a second try. Lino again was the orchestrator as he provided the pass to send the second-rower over.

Liam Hood entered the game from the bench and immediately had an impact diving over from dummy half for what is becoming his trademark try.

It looked like a 12 point lead for Wakefield at the break as the hooter sounded but Luke Gale and Jowitt had other ideas. The pair combined to send Lachlan Walmsley away down the sideline with a great cut out pass and before the winger passed back inside for Oliver Pratt to score.

After the break, Wakefield were made to work hard for their next score. It took a huge barnstorming run from Renouf Atoni to blast through the Bulls defence before Lino looped a pass out wide to debutant Derrell Olpherts allowing the winger to touch down for his first Trinity try.

It was Lino again carving through the Bradford defence just minutes later as the half back broke the line and found Jowitt in support for another try.

Tempers were starting to flare but following the try, Jowitt and Souter were sent to the sin bin for their parts in fracas.

With just a few seconds remaining on the clock, Wakefield spread the ball from right to left and an acrobatic finish from Walmsley finished the proceedings.
