Wakefield Trinity can confirm that Matty Ashurst will be leaving the club upon the completion of the 2024 season!
The Trinity captain will depart the DIY Kitchens Stadium after 10 seasons with the club and 227 appearances in the Red, White and Blue.
A true legend of the club, Ashurst became the first Lancastrian to be awarded a testimonial while at Wakefield.
A 2018 Super League Dream Team selection, Ashurst has been a key contributor since moving to Belle Vue in 2015 from Salford Red Devils and this year led Trinity out at Wembley and has lifted the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup and the Betfred Championship League Leaders Shield.
At 34-years old, the back-rower has appeared in 27 games through the 2024 season and has no plans to hang up the boots with a move already secured for 2025.
Matty Ashurst said: “It is pretty sad and emotional for myself to be leaving Wakefield. The club has been a massive part of my career and my life for the past decade. If someone would have said when I first joined I’d be here for so long I might not have believed them but I’ve loved every single minute and it’s that enjoyment that has kept me here for so long. There have been plenty of ups and downs throughout the year but I wouldn’t change any of it. It’s helped shape me as a person.
Hopefully we can end these last three games on a high and I don’t think there would be a more fitting way to end than winning a Grand Final and helping the club get back into Super League and back where they belong.”
