Wakefield Trinity Girls Rising Star, Lulu Blundell has recently been diagnosed with bone cancer and has started fundraising for Teenage Cancer Trust.
Lulu joined our newly formed Girls Under 16’s team from Oakwood High School in Rotherham. She came to the first ever trial and never missed a session or game until she started experiencing pain in her left shin.
The hospital had been monitoring and after one of her first scans she had an emergency referral to Sheffield Children’s hospital. She saw the consultant paediatrician and was referred to Birmingham hospital for a biopsy on the lump forming in her bone.
The biopsy results confirmed that Lulu had a rare bone cancer (Ewing’s Sarcoma). The cancer started in her shin and is quite aggressive. We are absolutely devastated for Lulu and it is highly unlikely she will be able to partake in rugby ever again. Lulu has always wanted to play this great sport for years and has loved every minute whether it be playing league or union (She definitely prefers league!).
Lulu recently celebrated her 16th birthday on the 12th June and the following day started chemotherapy treatment.
Some of our Under 16 girls visited Lulu to celebrate her 16th with her. Our girls have shown amazing support and not only being great friends for Lulu but fabulous ambassadors for Wakefield Trinity. Lulu is hoping to get to one more game to support her team before the season ends.
We are all thinking of Lulu and wishing her family all the best at this difficult time. Lulu is a young, talented and dedicated member of our team who is a credit to all her family and friends. Lulu will always be a part of our Rugby Family and on behalf of everyone at Wakefield Trinity, we will be supporting her all the way through her journey.
At Lulu’s request we have set up a link for the Teenage Cancer Trust where any donation would be much appreciated.
Lisa Taylor, Wakefield Trinity Ladies First Team player, recently swapped her rugby boots for a bike and cycled from Wetherby to Whitby to help raise funds for The Teenage Cancer Trust.
Our assistant coach, Liam Harnell is participating in this years Total Warrior event on 22nd June and is raising money for the The Teenage Cancer Trust, chosen by Lulu.
