Wakefield Trinity Winter Series has gone down a storm as the club collects positive feedback from its final Rugby League programme of the year.
Following positive Summer & Autumn programmes earlier in 2022, the club continued its development of the young players of the district in the off-season on Saturday as our under-15 and under-16 cohort took on Salford Red Devils’ pathway programme in Sharlston.
Bringing together fresh faces from community clubs situated across the district, this pathway offers a fresh challenge for those looking to reach the next step of the Rugby League pyramid, with opportunities for a spot in the club’s scholarship programme at stake.
With over 50 players and limited spots, the two age groups put on a show at the weekend, with some moments of magic gracing the Sharlston turf, with players admitting that they have enjoyed the challenges and benefits this programme has brought.
“The coaches are always there to support us, every session, every game, I am constantly developing,” said Harrison Powell, from the under-15s side.
“I have learnt to develop my own game and play with different players. It has been really beneficial to work with different types of players on the pitch, with the majority coming from other clubs.
“I think it was a good decision for me to do this as it has helped to develop my game, and, hopefully, I can take it into the new season.”
Whilst under-16s’ Bolek Kosowski followed, “It has been a good programme this year. It is nice to play with players you are normally playing against, which allows me to get to know them a bit more.
“To have the opportunity to learn how other people play is excellent. Having this chance allows you to adjust your game accordingly, which teaches you valuable skills to take forward.
“It’s insightful.”
The next training sessions for our Winter Series will take place on the 11th & 18th January 2023. Please email charlie.doherty@wakefieldtrinity.com to sign up.
