Pitts extends stay

Wakefield Trinity forward Jay Pitts has signed a new contract at the Club which will keep him in the Red, White & Blue until at least the end of 2022.

Pitts, who is proudly sponsored by BadRhino.com, has put pen to paper on a two-year contract, with the option to extend for a further year in 2023.

The back-rower was a consistent performer for Chris Chester’s team in 2020 and in the absence of Jacob Miller on occasion, Pitts was given the opportunity to captain the team, which was a testament to his leadership skills.

CEO, Michael Carter, is pleased to have Pitts at the Club for at least the next few years.

“I’m delighted that Jay has extended his stay with us,” said Carter.

“He is a local lad who has great pride in playing for his local club and captained the side on occasion this year, showing great leadership qualities we see in him.

“He is a real asset to the club and has brought culture change in the time he has been here.”

Head Coach, Chris Chester, added: “I’m really pleased Pittsy is here for another few years.

“He has been really consistent for us since joining last season and it was a no-brainer for all parties to extend his deal.

“Pittsy is a quality player, a really good professional and a leader, which is why we’re all delighted he’s here for the next couple of years.”

Speaking to Trinity TV, Jay Pitts said: “I’m over the moon and really happy to get it sorted.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my first year, despite all the difficulties in the year. It was a no-brainer for me to extend really.

“2020 was a frustrating season, with all the stopping and starting, plus all the self-isolating I had to do, but I’m just ready to kick on now and get going.”
