Match Preview – Wakefield Ladies v Leigh Miners

The Ladies team are hoping for a strong crowd on Sunday’s game which kicks off at 2pm at Sharlston Rovers after their opening home game clashed with the mens home fixture.

With the mens team in Challenge cup action at Huddersfield on Friday night and free admission at the Ladies game on Sunday there should be a bumper crowd at Sharlston Rovers, the ladies training and match day base.

The Wakefield ladies were without a fixture this weekend as they received a bye but head coach Wayne Hirst insists the side momentum is still going strong saying, “Ideally we want to play every week but that’s how the cup goes. We’ve kept the training intense in the last two weeks and we enjoyed a good session with Keith Mason last week. We’ve got another session before the game which we’ll concentrate on our game plan to hopefully continue our unbeaten run. Leigh Miners are a good side though and they had a good win at the weekend in the cup beating Whitley Bay by 54-4, so they’ll come confident.”

Captain Rebecca Brierley commented on the teams’ progress saying, “Each week we are growing as a team, training is really paying off and the Ladies are giving it their all every game. I’m hoping for a better start this weekend we started that game poor but Wayne’s words at half time were stern but what we needed to hear.

“This week we need a big defensive effort as Leigh Miners scored some points in their last game. The ladies are looking forward to a competitive game and I’m sure it will bring the best out of them.”

Vice-captain Kelsey Armistead is also expecting a good game saying, “We know Leigh will be a strong outfit so we have to play smart rugby, in recent weeks we have been a little sloppy in attack so we need to tighten that up in preparation for Sunday. As a team I am confident in our ability we are building and growing each week, Leigh will be a great test for us and I expect it will be a brilliant game to watch.”

Wakefield Trinity ladies would love the support of the Trinity fans and this is a great opportunity for the Wakefield Supporters to get down and show their support on Sunday hopefully on the back the mens team progressing into the Quarter final of the Challenge cup. For those Trinity fans further afield we hope to bring you an exclusive live stream, follow @WTLRL on twitter or https://www.facebook.com/wtladies/ on Facebook for links to the game.
