Wakefield Trinity Ladies will host their first matchday of 2022 on Sunday as we face local rivals, Featherstone Rovers, in the Challenge Cup.
Ourselves
Before a two-week break, Wakefield Trinity Ladies kicked off their competitive season in 2022 in some style, taking a comprehensive 32-10 victory over neighbours’ Castleford Tigers.
Tries from Kacey Davies, Aimee-Leigh Wood, Abbie Millward and a debut try for Lauren Harvey set the away side up in the first half.
Cassy Lawson and Libby Priestley added two scores after the break to cement a first-ever victory over the Tigers.
However, after a bit of time to rest and recuperate, the Ladies will be heading into Sunday’s clash with fresh motivation, knowing a victory will leave us with one foot in the quarter-finals.
Featherstone Rovers
After a heavy offseason, Featherstone recruited well in the winter, bringing in the likes of Chloe Nash, Lucy Atree and former Trinity player, Dany Jarrett.
Just like Trinity, Featherstone got off to a winning start in the Challenge Cup two weeks ago when they beat Oulton 30-10.
With an eye on the quarter-final stage of the competition, Rovers will be hoping to head to Trinity and get a victory over their local nemesis.
The Boss
Trinity head coach, Liam Harnell, spoke to the media ahead of Sunday’s clash with Featherstone Rovers in the Challenge Cup.
“We have been a little lighter on numbers the last couple of weeks due to a few injuries in the squad.
“We have had to call upon our depth and get a few players up to speed on playing different positions. However, this isn’t an issue we have full confidence in them to do a good job against Featherstone on Sunday.
“From playing against them [Featherstone] last year, they outmuscled us in the middle of the park. They had a much more experienced pack who had plenty of going forward. I’m looking forward to Sunday because they won’t find success there against us this year.”
