Lewis named as Ladies’ captain

Wakefield Trinity Ladies RL is delighted to announce Saskia Lewis as open age captain for the 2022 season.

Currently the longest-serving player at the club, Lewis has built up the respect of her teammates, being part one of the founding members of the club back when she was 16.

Now 22, the halfback has taken on the responsibility of leading the new-look side into the 2022 campaign, as they hope to make moves in the Women’s Super League group two.

Saskia will be joined by new signings Cassy Lawson and Kacey Davies as they are both named vice-captains alongside Lewis.

Speaking upon confirmation of her new role, Lewis said, “I am honoured to have been named captain for the 2022 season.

“I am really looking forward to leading the girls into a huge season in the Women’s Super League. Hopefully, we can kick on and gain some success this year.”

While, head coach, Liam Harnell, followed, “As coaches, we look to appoint a captain who will lead and inspire a group of individuals.

“A captain should hold high values and drive professionalism on and off the field. A leader works hard, looks out for their teammates, and buys into the direction the club wants to go, Saskia does all of this.

“She has been a part of the club since the woman’s team formed back in July of 2016 and she is our longest-serving player.

“With this, she is experienced and well respected by the playing group, and everyone involved at the club.”

Wakefield Trinity Ladies RL’s first game of the 2022 season will commence on Sunday, 13th March away to Castleford.
