Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation partners with National Coal Mining Museum

Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation are delighted to announce that we entered into a new partnership with the National Coal Mining Museum to support numerous projects within our local community.

The National Coal Mining Museum is based at the site of the Caphouse Colliery in Overton and keeps the stories of coal mining alive by collecting and preserving the industry’s rich heritage.

The new partnership between the Foundation and the National Coal Mining Museum will support the delivery of Youth Engagement, National Citizen Service (NCS), Heritage and Schools projects delivered by the Foundation.

The initial delivery at the National Coal Mining Museum will begin from late 2024, with our NCS participants’ Social Action Projects taking place at the site, supporting the creation of wildlife trails, the planting of more than 1,000 trees and preparation ahead of the Christmas period.

In addition, the partnership will see our Step Forward community walks at the Museum plus Schools Trip with the Foundation’s partnered schools.

Luke Shale, Head of the Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation, said: “Here at the Foundation, we are excited to be able to partner with the National Coal Mining Museum, whose support will ensure some unique collaboration across a range of different initiatives.

“Wakefield has a proud and storied mining heritage, with the National Coal Mining Museum preserving almost 200 years’ worth of history at its remarkable site.

“This partnership will ensure the Foundation can continue to enhance its work across our Youth Engagement, Education and Heritage departments while also working alongside a valuable asset within our local community.”

Lynn Dunning, Chief Executive Officer at the National Coal Mining Museum, said: “We’re delighted to announce an exciting new partnership with the Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation.

“This collaboration will bring our two organisations together offering unique volunteering opportunities that will bring huge benefits to the local area and communities.
