Wakefield Trinity Ladies’, Rachel Eastwood, was pleased to get her first run-out in Trinity colours but insists there is still work to do before the start of the new campaign.
After what felt like a long offseason, Trinity Ladies started their 2022 season with a 32-4 victory over Hull KR in Upton.
Despite a pleasing display, which saw the side 18-0 up at the interval, Eastwood believes that there is still much more to come from the new-look side.
“My first trinity experience was brilliant,” she said.
“Even though we were far from perfect, the love we all have for each other, and the positivity spread throughout the squad is just another level.
“I think the overall performance on Sunday was more than satisfactory for a first game. I mean a win is a win, but don’t get me wrong, we are rusty and there’s plenty to work on.”
With multiple new additions, it will take time for the whole squad to gel, however, with the first win under the belt, confidence will be up going into Sunday’s clash.
“Playing with new players wasn’t as tricky as I thought it was going to be as we have all gelled so well over the last four months in pre-season.
“It didn’t really feel like we were a new team playing for the first time, it felt as though we had been together for years.
A win is a win, but pre-season counts for nothing, and Eastwood and the side are aiming high in 2022.
With a clash against Salford next on the horizon, Trinity will be hoping to maintain that winning feeling ahead of the new campaign.
“Looking back, there were plenty of errors made, which we will be working hard on in training this week to correct
“We will be going into Sunday’s game with positivity, and I think we will be confident to go again against Salford.
“Hopefully, we can get another win under our belts, which will prepare us well for the season ahead.”
