The Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation are delighted to announce the launch of the ASUS Emerging Player Pathway (EPP) programme for Boys for the 2025/26 season!
Our EPP programme ensures open-access opportunities for young players in school Years 7 to 13 across Wakefield, West Yorkshire and beyond.
Launched in May 2024, EPP proved incredibly popular during the 2024/25 season and we were delighted to welcome almost 800 Boys players across the previous term from an array of Community Clubs.
EPP allows players to participate in high-quality sessions led by Wakefield Trinity’s Youth department and the Foundation’s coaching staff alongside Community Club coaches, training alongside other talented youngsters from across the local area.
Alongside providing regular training sessions and Festivals to complement young players’ opportunities at Community Club level, youngsters can develop skills and gain further insights into strength & conditioning, nutrition and maintaining a professional lifestyle.
EPP is an important part of the Wakefield Trinity Player Pathway, giving youngsters the opportunity to earn places in our Scholarship, Academy and Reserves at every stage of their developmental journeys.
Moving into 2025/26, our extended EPP programme will provide more dates than last season while continuing to provide opportunities for young players in our community.
Wakefield Trinity Community Rugby League Development Manager, Alex Bielby, said: “The 2024/25 EPP season was a major success, with almost 800 boys players and over 150 girls players participating in our sessions.
“We provided playing opportunities for the players as well as training sessions alongside coach development opportunities too.
“It was great to get the programme up and running last year and we’re looking forward to seeing where we can take it in the new season.
“The talent of players that we’ve got in Wakefield and West Yorkshire is remarkable and the playing numbers that we’ve got are fantastic.
“It’s really important that we keep that community arm of our Player Pathway open to young players.
“Looking forward, the most important thing is to keep striving to provide as many opportunities as we can.
“The more opportunities that we can provide to the players and the coaches in the area, the more likely we are to find those hidden gems that haven’t been picked up at a young age.
“Plus, it keeps players engaged in the sport and gives them opportunities to keep progressing, keep developing and hopefully that’ll help keep those U14s, U16s and U18s age groups strong, where we tend to see playing numbers drop off, to populate our local Open Age teams.”
In order to support the running costs of the Boys Emerging Player Pathway, there is a £10 registration fee, which covers players for the entirety of the 2025-26 season, from October 2025 to August 2026.
