Wakefield Trinity is delighted to confirm that Club Captain, Matty Ashurst, has been granted his 12-month testimonial by the RFL following his signing of a new one-year deal with the club.
Over the past 10 years, Ashurst has been ever-prominent in the Wakefield side, making his debut in 2015 before becoming the club’s captain by Mark Applegarth ahead of the 2023 campaign.
Along the way, the Wigan-born forward has made a big impact on the club, both on and off the field, making over 180 appearances in Red, White & Blue, scoring over 35 tries in the process.
It hasn’t just been Matty’s on-field performances that have earnt him well-deserved recognition, featuring heavily in the programmes run by the Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation, making sure that the work they do, doesn’t go unnoticed.
Speaking on being granted his testimonial, Ashurst said, “I’m over the moon to be granted a 12-month testimonial for 2024 heading into what will be my 10th year at Wakefield.
“It’s been an honour to represent this great club over all these years and to continue to do so with a testimonial year will be really special for me and my family.
“I’ve enjoyed all of the time I’ve been here and the support I’ve received has been class, so it makes me really proud to be able to celebrate my time here with a testimonial next season.”
The club would like to offer a huge congratulations to Matty, with more details on his testimonial being announced in due course.
