Wakefield Trinity Ladies’ Phoebe Evans has admitted that there is still areas of improvement as Trinity fall to defeat in our final pre-season friendly against Salford.
Two first-half tries from new signing Libby Priestly and Lisa Taylor, respectively, gave Wakefield a platform to build on at the break.
However, Salford found some form in the second period, with Emilia Povall-Clarke clawing one back in the final 10 minutes for the visitors.
“It wasn’t the score we wanted, but I think it has left us with a good idea of what we need to focus on in training before next week’s Challenge Cup fixture against Castleford.
“There were parts of the game where we dominated, but it needs to be a whole game of Wakefield domination.
“We have a full squad of about 30 amazing players, which is really beneficial against stronger teams we’ll be facing because we can maintain strength and ability throughout the whole game.”
Signing for the 2022 season, Evans has made a bit impact at Trinity, despite her young age. Coming through the ranks at Huddersfield, Evans has enjoyed her time at Trinity so far and is looking forward to making a statement when the season starts on Sunday.
“I’ve loved being able to finally play with the team, we play for each other,” she followed.
“Personally, I know what I need to work on [reflecting on the games] and I will work on these improvements for our big game this weekend.
“I underestimate myself too much. I put some big hits on our oppositions, and I’ve made some good ground when I have the ball, which boosts my self-confidence.”
A victory and defeat in pre-season will give coaches Liam Harnell and Ash Bond plenty of food for thought when the side kicks off their Challenge Cup campaign against near-neighbours Castleford at the weekend.
“I can’t wait for us all to show off what we’ve been practising in training as this will be our toughest game so far.
“We all have a positive attitude and are all so enthusiastic about this upcoming game which will allow us to play to our best ability.”
