Wolves Late Try Steals the Win

Trinity lose the game in the dying seconds after Lineham crossed the line in the corner for the Wolves to sneak the win by two points.

It may be a cliché but it was certainly a game of two halves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Trinity had a fantastic start to the game as they hit their hosts with two tries within the space of two minutes to take an early lead making amends after a disappointing Easter weekend.

The first try of the game came on seven minutes after a fantastic bit of play from Trinity. The home side applied the pressure by charging down a Finn kick on the last tackle, however Wood was the first to react as he sent Ashley Gibson over for his first try of the season.

This was followed up by a fantastic try from Mason Caton-Brown, Miller broke through after a fantastic ball from Dean Hadley, he had Caton-Brown in support who got over to double the lead on 10 minutes.

Ryan Atkins believed he had scored for Warrington after Pattern crossed, the decision was sent to the video ref who disallowed it for being offside giving Trinity a breath of fresh air.

On 22 minutes Warrington found themselves getting back into the game after Ryan Atkins raced 60 metres down the field pushing the Trinity defence out the way to get over.

Another decision was left in the hands of the video ref, this time for Trinity when Tom Johnstone crossed the line after he got onto the back of a kick from Wood. It was given as a knock on from the winger and Warrington picked up the possession on the 10m line.

Trinity had a penalty on the Wolves’ 10m line, Finn has no difficulty getting the two points putting them eight points in the lead on 14-6 with two minutes of the game remaining.

A wonderful pass from Jacob Miller set up Tom Johnstone at the start of the second half to go over in the left corner, Finn had no issue with the conversion.

Trinity’s defence were caught sleeping and Chris Hill managed to get his way over on 55 minutes giving them a lease of life and resulting in them piling on the pressure.

The home side continued to push forward and Brown showed a dummy before crossing the line and pulling it back by two points with nine minutes of the game remaining.
