Wakefield U19 Off The Mark Against London Broncos

The U19s got their first win of the season over the weekend, coming out victorious 20-18 against London Broncos.

Trinity got off to the better start with Nico Devittoris finishing a well worked moved from the scrum after some fine work by debutant Owen Hughes to take the scores to 4-0.

After a period of set for set rugby Wakefield were able to force the error from London in their own 20 and capitalised with a great Score as Tom Ashen weighted a kick perfectly in the in goal for the impressive Harry Dodd to finish and make the score 10-0.

London then enjoyed a fine period of play forcing Wakefield into defending back to back sets. Wakefield defence was robust but the sheer amount they were doing gave London the opportunity to pinch a score 2m off the Trinity goal line, 10-6.

Again, London enjoyed some sustained pressure -a combination of some unforced errors from Wakefield and well worked sets and again the Wakefield defence was holding out. Ultimately on the 4th repeat set London found a way through we a kick under the posts taking the scores to 10-12 at the interval.

Wakefield came out firing after the interval and forced London to do most of the defending in the opening 10 minutes, they got their rewards when Owen Hughes sliced through the London defence to run a fantastic try on debut. 14-12 Wakefield.

Wakefield were well on top by now with London struggling to stop the momentum. From the kick-off the excellent Yusuf Aydin made some good meters and Tom Schofield did an excellent kick and collect to kick into the corner for the flying Italian Devittoris to score his second of the afternoon with Tom Schofield adding his first conversion of the afternoon to make the score 20-12.

The Broncos dug deep into their energy reserves and got themselves back into the game through some strong carries and enjoyed a period of sustained pressure in the Wakefield 20. Again, after a number of repeat sets London found a way through taking the scores to 20-18. It was a nervy last 5 minutes for the Young Trinity side, but they showed great character to close out the game and earn their 1st win of the season.

Man of the Match: Yusuf Aydin- the young front rower worked tirelessly all afternoon with some outstanding defence and tough carries.
