Wakefield Trinity Ladies Appoint New Head Coach

Wayne Hirst has been officially appointed as Head Coach for the Wakefield Trinity Ladies team.

Hirst will be looking to further improve on Trinity Ladies fortunes this season. The team has shown huge improvements in recent months under the guidance of Becky Brierley & Claire Reynard.

Wayne Hirst has spoken about his appointment saying, “I am delighted and really excited to become Head Coach of Wakefield Trinity Ladies team, especially as it is my home town club that I’ve supported for years.

So to be involved in the club is a huge privilege. I have been playing and involved in rugby for the last 30 years, at different levels. Most recently coaching the u14’s girls at Shaw Cross and have been for the last three years where we have grown from a handful of girls that have never played before to two teams consisting of 34 players that now live and breathe the game of rugby league.

“To have this opportunity and help advance the women’s game and hopefully progress myself as a coach and the team to be successful in the Women’s Super League is a massive incentive to work to and one that I can’t wait to get my teeth in to”.

Wakefield Trinity Community Development Manager; James Stephenson said, “I am delighted that Wayne has joined us and I am looking forward to him taking the Ladies team forward. There has been lots of interest for the role with quality candidates applying, but collectively we knew Wayne was the right man for the job. I would like to thank both Becky Brierley and Claire Reynard who have both done a fantastic job recently as joint caretaker coaches; both will now be assisting Wayne whilst continuing to play for the ladies next season”.
