Wakefield Trinity are delighted to provide our 2021 Player Development Centre (PDC) dates for immediate booking.
The PDC is a joint initiative between Wakefield Trinity and the Rugby Football League. It is designed to provide enhanced development opportunities for young players to improve their ability, away from their Community Club environment, in a professional setting. For Trinity it’s anopportunity to support Community Clubs with ever so slight improvements to their playing group through the targeted sessions.
The programme engages players aged 11-16 years old, male and female, and runs from Kettlethorpe High School 3G pitch into a schedule of delivery that complements school and club playing programmes. Schools and clubs are invited to introduce student Rugby League players, as well as talented athletes from other sports with the potential to excel in the game.
Players who participate in the PDC process follow a curriculum designed by the Youth section to develop the future player and focus on the development of core skill, decision making and athleticism, delivered through the principles of play. The focus of the PDC is around individual player development and also aims to support the holistic development of players through education around lifestyle factors.
Over the last few years a small number of players with the greatest long-term potential will enter the Wakefield TrinityScholarship Programme which is for identified young players aged 14-16 years where players train weekly at the Mobile Rocket Stadium following a curriculum that addresses the holistic development of physical, technical, tactical, psychological, educational and life skills.
Rugby League Development Manager Josh Riding said, “It is fantastic to again relaunch our Wakefield Trinity Player Development Centres for 2021. The programme has had a massive impact on our scholarship and academy systems in recent years, with players such as Sam Eseh & Josh Phillips signing with our U19 academy. A large number of our new scholarship intake (U15’s) attended the programme in 2019. The programme is open to players from Wakefield and surrounding areas and will be led by Mark Applegarth (HOY)and myself with local community coaches invited to work with us for their development.”
