Trinity Suffer Cup Defeat

Trinity are knocked out of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup after a heavy defeat at the hands of Salford Red Devils.

It was a dominating performance from the home side who took advantage of Trinity’s injury blows to their advantage and tore down the defence.

A consolation try three minutes from time from Liam Finn gave Trinity their only points in the game after Salford found themselves 20-0 up going in at half time.

The first try of the game came in the seventh minute and went to the home side after Ryan Lannon got over, the decision was sent to the video ref who awarded the try.

Minutes later and it was Ben Murdoch-Masila who got the second try of the game for Salford, Rob Lui set him up on the inside to get over.

Trinity grew ever so slightly into the game on the 30 minute mark, however silly mistakes proved to be very costly. After giving away a penalty, Michael Dobson went for the two points to put the home side further into the lead.

Salford’s third try came with four minutes left of the first half when Niall Evalds darted around Trinity’s defence to get over and put the home side 20-0 up.

The first opportunity Salford had on the ball in the second half saw Murdoch-Masila release Greg Johnson to score in the corner, Dobson’s conversion attempt was missed after the ball bounced back off the post.

Craig Kopczak forced his way over to get another try for Salford, Dobson certainly didn’t fail with his conversion and the Red Devils were 30-0 in the lead.

Mason Caton-Brown attempted his acrobatic try to get Trinity back into the game, however Salford forced the winger into touch.

A consolation try for Trinity came with eight minutes remaining after Mason Caton-Brown was the first to react to an Arundel kick, the winger knocked the ball back and Finn got the try.
