This Sunday’s Testimonial will see Wakefield Trinity and Hull FC playing for the David Topliss Memorial Trophy.
Both Trinity and Hull FC were the teams that ‘Toppo’ played with great distinction for, picking up many of his individual honours whilst at Belle Vue or the Boulevard and he sits proudly in both Clubs’ Hall of Fames.
Topliss signed for Trinity in 1968 but gained his initial professional Rugby League experience in the A Team as he was up against Harold Poynton for the stand-off jersey. His opportunity arrived when Poynton retired in 1969 and wore the number six jersey for the next 11 years.
He played in three cup final defeats in his early Trinity days and was made captain for the 1974 final. After his move to Hull, he led them to the Challenge Cup Final in 1982, earning an Elland Road replay after a 14-14 draw with Widnes.
Tickets are still on sale for the fixture and can be purchased from the Club Shop in the Ridings Centre or by calling 01924 211611 option 1. Alternatively they can be bought online via the Club website; it is a super fast and easy process with an e-ticket being sent to your email address.
