We are delighted that Natalie Gilmour MBE is to become the official Ambassador for Women and Girls Rugby League for Wakefield Trinity.
Natalie who has had an illustrious career in women’s rugby league spanning over two decades and played for England RL for more than 15 years whilst captaining her country in two world cups. She was awarded an MBE in 2017 for her services to Women’s Rugby League.
Additional to her Ambassador role, Natalie will join up with the coaching staff of Wakefield Trinity Ladies, to share her valuable knowledge assisting Head Coach Wayne Hirst.
Hirst commented on the appointment, “I am really pleased that we have been able to secure Natalie’s services as an Ambassador for women & girls rugby league in and around Wakefield. This is a huge statement of intent from the club to really grow and promote the female game.
“Also having Natalie offer to assist with coaching the team will be great for the ladies to learn from someone with such a highly decorated career in women’s rugby league, I am really looking forward to seeing Natalie and taking women & girls rugby league to the next level”
Natalie Said, “It’s an honour to have been asked to be an Ambassador for Wakefield Trinity, how they are trying to help push and grow the women’s and girls’ game is huge and I’m really excited to be part of the club and take the game forward.
“I’m also really excited to help out coaching with the Wakefield Ladies team, I said throughout my career that when I retired I’d love to get into coaching and give something back and encourage more girls to take part in what is an amazing sport, and hopefully with my experience and knowledge of the game will help improve players to enable them to find their highest potential ready to compete strongly in women’s Super League for 2019.“
Natalie will play an instrumental role in the mentoring of our Women’s team along with promoting and helping to create opportunities for female players to play at all levels.
Wakefield Trinity’s Community Manager; James Stephenson stated, “This has been a long time coming but has moved quickly in the last 48hrs and is fantastic that Natalie has accepted this position as Ambassador and offered to help & mentor with the Ladies team.
“I am really pleased to be able to showcase this on behalf of Wakefield Trinity and I know Natalie will do an amazing job for the club and the female game. With someone like Natalie having a long standing career at the highest level promoting the game to women and girls, there really aren’t any better role models. Also coaching with the ladies is massive for us and we are truly grateful for her services. I can’t wait for her to get started!”
