Match Preview – Widnes Vikings v Wakefield Trinity

Round 22 sees Wakefield Trinity make the journey to the Halton Stadium to face Widnes Vikings this evening in the Betfred Super League, kick-off 8pm.

A win this evening will be one step closer for Trinity to get a top four finish ahead of the Super 8s campaign. It is the third time both teams face each other this season, both games ending in a victory for Trinity.

The first game came in round eight back in April at the Beaumont Legal Stadium, after a 30-4 victory with tries coming from Grix, Tupou, Johnstone, Hadley and Huby. The second game was at the Dacia Magic Weekend in Newcastle where Trinity secured a 34-24 victory.

Trinity will be looking at getting back to winning ways after losing out to local rivals Castleford Tigers last Thursday after a drop goal from Luke Gale in the dying minutes gave them the one point lead to get the win.

Three changes have been made by Chris Chester; Mikey Sio is on loan to Halifax so obviously drops out of the side. Jordan Crowther and Reece Lyne also miss out on selection; Reece is currently serving a two-match suspension.

The players have been replaced by Danny Kirmond who has been out for a couple of months with a knee injury. Max Jowitt also comes into the 19-man squad alongside David Fifita who was called up late to face Castleford Tigers last Thursday.

Widnes Head Coach, Denis Betts has made four changes to his side that suffered a heavy defeat to Huddersfield Giants last weekend.

Keanan Brand, Rangi Chase, Eamon O’Carroll and Tom Olbison all come into the 19-man squad for Widnes whilst Jay Chapelhow, Tom Gilmore, Brad Walker and Lloyd White all miss out.

Widnes have had a difficult few weeks regarding results after losing to Wigan Warriors and Huddersfield Giants. However, their last three home fixtures have all results in wins and Widnes will be looking at continuing that run this evening.

Trinity 19-man squad: Chris Annakin, Tinirau Arona, Joe Arundel, Matty Ashurst, Mason Caton-Brown, Anthony England, David Fifita, Liam Finn, Scott Grix, Dean Hadley, Keegan Hirst, Craig Huby, Ben Jones-Bishop, Max Jowitt, Danny Kirmond, Bill Tupou, Adam Walker, Sam Williams, Kyle Wood
