Three Wakefield Trinity Ladies players have been selected for the upcoming Women’s Championship Origin match.
The match between Yorkshire and Lancashire will take place on Saturday 1st September at Millpond Stadium, the home of the Featherstone Lions.
The Women’s Championship Origin is an important fixture in the representative calendar and runs alongside the Super League Origin which is played the following day at the Halliwell Jones in Warrington.
The Wakefield Trinity ladies selected are Lisa Taylor, Danielle Swaine and Jessie Mathews. Taylor has been given the accolade of captaining the White Rose side.
Head coach Wayne Hirst said: “We’ve got three players from our team who have been selected to play in the Yorkshire v Lancashire game and it could have easily been more. The three who have been selected have been excellent for us this year and fully deserve it.”
He added “I think the County representative games are excellent and glad it’s been introduced to the women’s game. There’s a lot of talent out there and it needs showcasing at a different level.”
“I feel that we as a team can only benefit from it as it’s a big boost for players and it may mean them bringing something else back to us.”
“I’m a big supporter of representative rugby and believe it will only get bigger and better as time goes on”
Wakefield Trinity Ladies are next in action on Sunday 19th August when they travel to Leigh Miners Rangers where they will look to bounce back to winning ways after last weeks defeat versus Stanningley.
