Key “excited” for Nines festival

Wakefield Trinity halfback, Jade Key, is looking forward to coming up against her former side as we head to Warrington for the first Nines festival of the year on Sunday.

After a number of years at Hull FC, Key, amongst others, made the trip from the East Riding of Yorkshire, signing at the Be Well Support Stadium for 2022.

Jade wasn’t the only one, however, with sisters Cassy and Leonie Lawson and Nataliina Romano all joining Trinity for the forthcoming campaign.

“The girls have all welcomed me in and I am enjoying the new challenges and environments that a new team brings,” she said.

“Starting every game, the coaches have shown a lot of faith in me already. I hope I can keep repaying them with some good performances.

“Our cup exit was naturally disappointing, so this is a good chance for us to build on some combinations ahead of the Super League season.

“We have been training well together and have worked hard. I’m looking forward to getting back out there and showing everyone what we can do.”

Nines is a new format, starting in 2022 and will consist of many teams, both UK and across the waters. This will offer the chance for sides to take part in a free-flowing, fast-paced version of Rugby League over three games.

Trinity’s group will comprise of Catalans Dragons, Wigan Warriors and the Airlie Birds, with Jade excited about coming up against her former side.

“It will be very unique for me as I played a lot of years at Hull FC, and I know a lot of the girls really well.

“Obviously, being from Hull and still living there, we all still keep in contact. I’m sure they’ll be some friendly fire when we come up against them.”

The festival will be a good opportunity for the side to use some fresh faces in the side ahead of a busy Women’s Super League schedule, which starts on May 15th.

After a disappointing Challenge Cup campaign, the squad will look to bounce back with three strong contests, boosting their confidence ahead of 2022.

“It will definitely give us some confidence. We’ve just got to stick to what we know works for us and play together as a team.

“We’ve been training with good shape and structure, and we can’t wait to put that into a game scenario. I’m really looking forward to it.
