Join Our College Pathway

As the Academy season commenced this weekend, we are planning for the next academy stars and potential first team prospects.

Part of the Wakefield pathway and player development strategy is the successful link with Wakefield College and the Wakefield Rugby Development Squad programme. This is a collaboration between the college and the academy which allows for aspirational young rugby players to study a range of subjects alongside an enhanced rugby programme, led by Wakefield Trinity staff and playing against other college programmes.

Wakefield College has a full range of academic, vocational and practical education programmes that can suit any type of learner, the full range of which can be seen here: Wakefield College – School Leavers.

Alongside the education Wakefield Trinity RLFC have devised a programme that will run in parallel to their Academy programme to prepare players to take the next step towards professional rugby. The Wakefield Rugby Development Squad will play and train to the same philosophy as the Wakefield Trinity club, receive coaching from the Wakefield Trinity Academy Coaches as well as a Strength and Conditioning Programme led by Wakefield Trinity. The training will be split between Belle Vue and the college, to make the transition for players with potential as smooth and supportive as possible. The partnership has had a number of recent successes with players progressing to Wakefield Trinity and beyond and include the players Lewis Murphy, James Batchelor, Jack Croft, Yusuf Aydin, Tom Delaney and Sam Eseh.
