Wakefield Trinity Academy get their campaign underway this evening when they travel to Stanningley to face Leeds Rhinos, KO 7pm.
Trinity’s loose-forward Jake Camplin, who is equally adept at hooker, is expecting a physical game tonight against what he describes as “one of the toughest in the league.”
“When you think of strong Academy sides and clubs in general, Leeds Rhinos sticks out as one of the best,” said Camplin.
“It’s going to be a good challenge for us to kickstart our season but one that we’re really looking forward to getting stuck into.
“Our off-season has been strong. We have all worked really hard to prepare and we’re now excited to get out on the field.”
The home side will be wary of Camplin and some of his teammates as they come off the back of a tough fixture with the Reserves last week.
“For us lads who played in the reserves last week, it was a real learning curve for us against a strong and experienced Huddersfield team. We can definitely take plenty from that to move forward and have a real good go at Leeds this week.”
Last month, Jake was part of a number of Academy players who featured in our final pre-season friendly vs Hull FC. He was one of 16 players who progressed through Trinity’s Academy system and the boyhood Trinity fan admits that occasion was a “dream come true”.
“It was unreal, coming through the ranks you have that dream of making it into the first team. Being a fan since I was young, there’s no other club I’d rather represent.
“I’m now looking forward to a successful season with the academy to make some good progress and show everyone what brand of rugby Wakefield Trinity can play.”
