Wakefield Trinity are delighted to announce that Isaac Shaw has signed a full-time professional contract with the club for the 2022 season.

Isaac, who played his amateur rugby with Emley Moor, is a product of the Wakefield Academy system, having featured in the scholarship and academy outfits over the years.

The young prop forward has also represented England and Yorkshire at youth level and is coming off the back of an impressive 2021 season with the Trinity young guns.

Trinity head coach Willie Poching said: “Isaac is another of our young players to come through our junior system.

“It’s always wonderful to be able to promote the young guys from within the club. Isaac has had a fantastic season and he’s been rewarded on merit with his full-time contract.

“He is excited, as are we, to put in a really good pre-season, try and show his worth and fulfil some of the potential he has.”

On signing his first professional contract, Shaw said: “I’m really happy to finally put pen to paper and sign a full-time deal with Wakefield Trinity.

“I have been pushing for this moment since I was 10-year-old and now I am looking forward to showing the Wakefield fans and coaches what I can do and how hard I’m willing to work.

“I would personally like to thank my family for putting in the time and effort whilst also thanking Mark Applegarth along with the other Academy staff who have helped me develop. I also want to thank my Emley Moor coaches, Stu and Jamie, for pushing me towards my dream.

“I’m now looking forward to getting back onto the field, developing even more, and expanding my potential with the first team.

Mark Applegarth, Trinity Assistant Coach, who has overseen Shaw’s development over the years as Head of Youth, added: “I am delighted that Isaac has signed a one-year deal with the first team.

“He is one of the most dedicated players I have seen come through our youth system and from when we signed him as a scholar, he has shown tremendous dedication to get himself to where he has.

“Isaac is still very raw, and it excites me how much potential he has. He is hungry to achieve and I’m looking forward to seeing him develop over the next twelve months.”
