Fans urged to sponsor Stu Dickens on the Warriors Walk

WAKEFIELD Trinity welfare manager and former Featherstone Rovers star Stu Dickens is preparing to walk off into the sunset to celebrate his glorious playing career – quite literally!

Dickens is one of a group of players who will tackle the famous Yorkshire Three Peaks as part of the 2021 Warriors Walk, a special event organised by the independent charity Rugby League Cares.

The Warriors Walk will see recently retired players come together over the weekend of September 11 and 12 to take on the Three Peaks, share memories of their careers and receive information from career advice professionals about the best way to succeed in the next chapter of their working lives.

The project forms part of RL Cares’s efforts to ensure Rugby League players make a successful transition into new careers once their playing days are over, as well as rekindling the special bond that exists whenever professional sportsmen come together.

“I’m really looking forward to the Warriors Walk, it’s going to a fantastic weekend spending time with many of the players I used to play with and against,” said Dickens, who made 400 appearances for Featherstone Rovers before joining the coaching staff at Wakefield in 2012.

“I really enjoyed my playing career and am enjoying life in my new role but that’s not something many players find easy.

“RL Cares does a brilliant job supporting players throughout their careers and helping them make a successful transition, and my involvement in the Warriors Walk is my way of saying a big ‘thank you’ to the charity.

“The Three Peaks is going to be a tough challenge for all of us and I’d love to get the supporters behind me. Hopefully Wakefield and Featherstone fans will sponsor me via my Justgiving page.”
