Trinity continued the festive celebrations with a victory over Leeds Rhinos in the Wetherby Whaler Festive Challenge.
A hat-trick from Johnstone and a try from Mikey Sio gave Trinity the perfect present to end 2016.
After a quiet opening 10 minutes, the Rhinos found themselves with an early break after Ashton Golding’s kick off ran dead, however Trinity came out on top with some exceptional play down the right side.
The home side were penalised for dragging Scott Grix into touch, on the next play Williams played the ball out to the line to find Grix who found Johnstone on the outside to get the first try of the game, Finn added the extras to make it 6-0 to Trinity.
Lovely bit of play down the right side, Williams once again with the flick across to find Wood who put in a nice little short side pass, Lyne scuffled through the Rhinos defence to ground the ball, and put Trinity further into the lead on 10-0. Finn failed the conversion attempt.
With ten minutes of the first half remaining the Rhinos finally showed a bit of strength in attack, however Trinity remained defiant in defence to deny the home side of getting back into the game.
With seconds into the second half a fantastic dominant drive from Arona caught out a sleeping Rhinos defence for Mikey Sio who performed a lovely show and go to get over, Finn added the extras to put Trinity 16-0 into the lead.
Trinity continued to apply the pressure and Joe Arundel showed great footwork to get over the line once more, Finn’s conversion bounced back off the post.
On the next play, the visitors were close to furthering their lead when a lovely break from Bill Tupou down the left side to find Grix and then out to Finn who was inches away.
With 14 minutes of the game remaining, Tom Johnstone finally got his break down the wing and showcased his acrobatic skills to dive around the corner flag and over the line, Finn got the conversion and Trinity lead 26-0.
The Rhinos finally got themselves into the game when Jack Ormondroyd held off five Trinity defenders to get under the sticks, Jordan Lilley added the extras to put the visitors onto the scoreboard, 6-26 with 10 minutes of the game remaining.
Johnstone got his hat trick when a flick from youngster James Batchelor offloaded to the winger to win the game with 30-6; Finn failed to add the extras once more as his conversion attempt was too short.
