An exciting opportunity has arisen at Wakefield Trinity to lead on the design and delivery of the community rugby league strategy and to embed Wakefield Trinity at the heart of the rugby league community in the Wakefield district.


The community rugby league development manager role will be positioned across both foundation and performance departments to align delivery in the region to develop and inspire a generation of future international Rugby League players, playing for Wakefield Trinity, providing sustained Super League success through a strong community game and comprehensive player pathway.


The role will have a chance to shape the community rugby league development strategy with the aims of increasing participation, developing coaches, enhancing grassroots club experiences, creating an emerging player pathway to support long term development towards superleague and support clubs, primary and secondary schools in providing quality playing experiences on their doorstep. A newly created rugby league management board will monitor and evaluate the strategy as well as support the strategy through a joined up whole club, whole game approach.


As a new role, the post holder will have the chance to shape the delivery plan to meet the outcomes below.


Principal Responsibilities
• Win over the hearts and minds of the rugby league community in the Wakefield district, creating a wide and diverse rugby league family associated with, and fans of Wakefield Trinity.


• Increase Participation by providing a range of activities that provide wide and varied opportunities for anyone, of any age, gender or regardless of disability to engage with our sport through the Wakefield Trinity brand. Introduce the sport; nurture and retain people to create future players, coaches, volunteers and match officials.


• Develop Coaches and volunteers through engagement across the community to include community club coaches, students and teachers across the city. Ensuring we develop a positive, inclusive and progressive coaching culture. Providing opportunities for coaches to learn, develop and refine their craft for all levels of the game.


• Support and develop all of our community clubs to ensure they are able to provide the best possible experience for all Rugby League players playing our sports at grassroots level. Create well organised, safe and inclusive environments for long lasting involvement in our sport.


• Deliver a comprehensive and fluid, multi-lane talent development pathway for players and coaches to progress to Superleague and England. Keeping as many players involved in the game for the maximum amount of time possible. Alongside the performance department provide a system that allows for early identifying potential talent progression yet remains wide and emergent for an extended window, supporting players, parents and coaches from the Wakefield district. (U12-U18)


• Provide and support the development of quality playing opportunities within the region, across Primary and Secondary schools and within. Providing the most appropriate playing opportunity and positive experience for each individual player.


Additional information
• The role will include line management responsibility and development of a range of rugby league delivery staff (FT, PT and Vol) including monitoring and appraisals of Development staff and ensuring that all sessions are delivered to a high standard.


• There will be a requirement to report on KPIs both to the governing body and rugby league management board. There will also be a requirement to administrate appropriate monitoring and evaluation systems linked to programme delivery as well as promotion of community activity and generating positive media presence on the back of quality delivery and initiatives.


• The role will link in with other members of the Foundation as well as the Academy to help achieve the main goals. Working collaboratively and aligning key aspects of the delivery plans will be fundamental to the success of this role.


• The role will be responsible for the management of the rugby league community development budget and ensuring quality delivery within financial boundaries.


• Maximising ticket sales within the community, increasing spectators at Belle Vue and creating new fans of Wakefield Trinity is an important aspect of this role and aligned to becoming the beating heart of the game in the region.


• Providing education around and supporting player transitions from emerging player programmes into scholarship, Wakefield College development squad and the Wakefield Trinity Academy.


• Ensuring that the programme design of the player development pathway aligns with the Trinity Blueprint for player and coach development to provide a pipeline of players and coaches through the pathway at a time appropriate for progression.


• Plan, implement and review all coaching delivery through the emerging pathway and aspire programmes using relevant session plans to support player development.


• Utilise school holiday windows to maximise player development opportunities and/or revenue generating programmes such as holiday camps.


• Support talent identification database from within Rugby League and other sports through school, club and pathway programmes.


• Develop strong stakeholder relationships with all sectors of the game (clubs, schools, match officials, district committees, parents, players, academy) for regular open dialogue about the regions needs.


• Attend internal CPD session, including the development of mental skills. Utilise techniques to enhance mental skill development withing rugby sessions.


• To liaise and work alongside the RFL when required.


• Ensure appropriate codes of conduct are followed by all staff and players.


• Additional duties in line with the evolution of the strategic plan, to be agreed by both employee and line manager


Knowledge/Qualifications and Experience
Essential
• UKCC level 2 Coaching Rugby League
• Full Driving licence and access to a vehicle
• Experience of working within a community development department
• Good understanding of the education sector
• Experience of delivering community based programmes
• Excellent knowledge of local Community Rugby League
• Excellent planning skills
• Experience of line management
• First Aid Qualification
• Safeguarding Qualification

• RFL Coach Educator
• Sound knowledge and understanding of talent identification and development processes
• Understanding of long term athlete development
• Proven ability to manage a team of staff
• Mental Health First Aid Certificate
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Excellent management and strong interpersonal and rapport building skills
• Self-motivated and the ability to motivate others.
