As 2018 now draws to a close, I look back on another satisfactory year for Wakefield Trinity.
On the field, we started well despite ending up looking like a Yeti early on against Widnes. Running across the 20 metre line clearing snow during the game was a highlight. Good job no one could see me!
There were highs and lows that followed but finishing 5th once again gave me immense pride which was topped off with 3 players in the Dream Team, and 2 players gaining England recognition. All in all a very satisfying season, and I’d like to thank all the Players, Coaches and Performance staff for their efforts and input.
Off field, and our Community Department continue to grow, picking up numerous awards and smashing their Sky Try targets. The work they continue to do locally getting young and old people playing sport truly warms my heart. I am determined to get people, particularly kids, out of the house and exercising. Locally we have a massive problem and I want to continue getting these kids away from IPhones and onto pitches.
Our commercial department continues to grow attracting new partners and retaining existing ones. I’d like to thank all our partners for their support in continuing to make Wakefield Trinity grow.
Retail continues to grow, and we’ve had a record year in terms of Shirt Sales. Clearly you all love the relationship we have with ISC. Season memberships are 16% up year on year and I thank all of you that have committed. The Junior membership has proved very popular and hopefully we will get lots more to commit before the season starts.
Sadly, we always find that some fans and past players pass away during the year. Unfortunately it’s always far to many, and my sincere condolences to all who lost a loved one. The passing of Harold Poynton brought out many tributes and he was one of THE great Trinity players. A fantastically funny bloke and he will be truly missed.
The Club has also seen a change in structure and John Minards has become the new Chairman. John has been a massive fan since the early 70’s and has already proved his worth with his work at the Club. John’s number one priority is the New Community Stadium for Wakefield and we all continue to work very hard to bring this to fruition.
Finally, it just remains for me to thank all the staff and volunteers at Trinity. I don’t know where we’d be without you all. Also I’d like to thank all the fans for their continued support, and wish all the supporters of Trinity, supporters of Rugby League and everyone involved in Trinity, and all the other Clubs a Very Merry Christmas and a Fantastic New Year. Enjoy the time with loved ones and cherish every moment.
See you all on Boxing Day
Michael
